Welcome New Member: Utah Metal Works
Utah Metal Works Becomes New PSI Member
Utah Metal Works has a long history as a member company of ISRI and one of its predecessor associations, NARI. Although the 64-year-old, family-owned scrap company specializes in recycling nonferrous metal scrap, it also handles some OCC at its Salt Lake City headquarters operation and larger quantities of OCC at its subsidiary plant named Dixie Metal Recycling in St. George, Utah. The company’s operations include two balers and one wire-chopping line in Salt Lake City and one baler at its St. George facility.
The company’s principal officers—Don Lewon, chairman of the board; Mark Lewon (left), president; and Chris Lewon, vice president—have a long history of service within ISRI, including holding leadership positions on its national board of directors, Rocky Mountain Chapter, and numerous committees and subcommittees. Mark Lewon, Utah Metal Works’ key contact to the PSI Chapter, even served as ISRI’s national chair—the association’s highest elected office—from 2016 to 2018. In addition to having 33 years (and counting) of full-time work in the scrap industry under his belt, Lewon has almost 25 years of ISRI service on his resume. Aside from his current position as ISRI’s immediate past chair, he sits on the ISRI Resources board—which oversees ISRI’s insurance program—and is a member of the Executive, Audit, Leadership, Membership, Communications, and Government Relations committees.
